Check out our kidblogs and see what we have been doing during Term Two.
This semester we are researching why a selection of nations began to explore beyond the boundaries of their individual countries. Expanding usable land, trading products, finding treasures and building empires have a lot to do with it. Who are the early explorers and what did they find? Who did actually discover Australian ? Which country claimed Australia as their own? This term we have been reading the novel Onion Tears by Diana Kidd. The story has been very interesting and is about a girl around our own age. She came to live in Australia from Vietnam. We have also been looking at the concepts of different cultures, being different and having lost people that are important to us. Soon we will upload some videos that will be interviews about what we have been learning and what we have learnt from this novel study. Throughout term one our PD Health unit is called "My growing self". In one of our lessons we learnt about how advertisements both on TV and in magazines make us feel like we have to 'have' the product. We discussed as a group how they use different colours, pictures jingles and fonts to capture our attention. Below is a video of 4GB creating their own 'ads'. In this task 4GB were required to work in small groups, design a product and then create and 'ad' for it. After you have watched the video use the comments button to comment on why you think certain 'ads' are shown at certain times of the day. What time would you advertise your product and why? Throughout PD Health over the last couple of weeks we have been discussing CHANGE...
We have talked about what change looks like, how change can make us feel, how change can effect our world and the people around us. Here is a photo of the students of 4GB and the mind map they created about change. In thinking about this concept of change I wonder if you can think of a time when your life has changed. How did this change make you feel? Comment below... |
